About Julie K. Dennehy, APR
President, Dennehy Public Relations
Julie Dennehy’s career began in radio at WJPZ-FM in Syracuse, New York as an on-air personality and promotions coordinator. As part of the station’s management team, she helped develop a repositioning campaign that drew the attention of Billboard magazine, which rated the non-commercial station #1 in the country that year. Julie also worked for the Advertising Club of Boston’s Hatch Awards and two midsize Boston agencies before starting her own boutique firm in 1996 to provide consumer-oriented organizations with creative and strategic public relations services.
Often quoted by the trade media, Julie was profiled by PR News in their special issue, “15 To Watch: Highly Valued PR Assets.” Julie has served her PR community in a wide range of leadership roles, including as president of both the Public Relations Society of America’s Boston Chapter and the Publicity Club of New England, as well as on the Universal Accreditation Board. She is also a former director of the International Special Events Society’s New England chapter and has received over a dozen Publicity Club of New England Bell Ringer awards before serving as a judge for these awards since 1997.
Additional leadership roles include co-founding the Boston Independent Practitioners Network, a subgroup of PRSA’s Boston Chapter and served as a director of the PRConsultants Group (www.prconsultantsgroup.com), a national network of 45 senior-level consultants working together on the world’s largest agencies and brands. With her PRConsultants Group colleagues led by national PR firm PainePR, the team won the highest national PR award, the “Best of” Silver Anvil Award, for its national launch of XM Satellite Radio. As a small firm, Dennehy Public Relations was proud to be part of this results-oriented, award-winning national launch team and this network. The PRCG has been featured in Inc. Magazine, and is profiled in the book “Alpha Dogs: How Your Small Business Can Become a Leader of the Pack” by author and Inc. writer Donna Fenn (Collins, December 2005).
Julie graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications with a degree in advertising and sociology, and speaks frequently to university classes, nonprofit organizations, and small business groups on PR topics. She resides in Medway with her husband Tim and children, Owen and Olivia, where they are active in the local Unitarian Universalist church and other community service nonprofits.
